PECO Pallet update on Coronavirus/COVID-19 response

Company Assurance for Customers

PECO Pallet provides an essential service to the food and grocery supply chain, facilitating the movement and distribution of critical food, beverage, paper, produce, and other grocery products. PECO has provided uninterrupted service to our customers through the COVID-19 crisis to date and will strive to continue to maintain this level of performance.

PECO proactively increased pallet inventory on hand and other critical supplies such as component lumber, paint, and nails. We are in regular contact with our suppliers to monitor and potentially intervene on any disruptions to our supply chain. Our pallet depots and supply base are performing reliably.

While the situation is constantly changing, the guidelines below represent the evolution of our best judgment now of the practical steps we have taken over the past several months to reduce risk for our employees as well as our customers, colleagues and communities.

Safety Protocol at PECO Depot Operations

  • Temperature checks have been implemented for our employee safety at all PECO operated facilities.
  • Contact tracing is conducted when an employee is suspected of or tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Employees working on-site are applying social distancing, proper use of PPE, and hygiene protocols based on guidance from health authorities.
  • Only essential personnel are allowed in PECO depots.
  • Truck drivers, deliveries, Cintas, and other vital services personnel should expect to engage with social distancing wherever possible. PECO team members are asked to remind or advise drivers and other essential visitors of this practice.
  • Paperwork hand-offs, touch points, and other activities have been reduced where possible.
  • Social distancing practices in common areas, with staggered break and lunch times, are in place to limit the number of people in the break area at a given time.
  • Hand sanitizer and soap are readily available for employees.
  • Disinfecting the operation is vital to our employees’ health and safety. Bathrooms, break rooms, lunch tables, microwaves, time clocks, pens for sign in logs, water fountains, fridges, and doorknobs in common areas are cleaned continuously throughout the day.
  • Between shifts, repair tools, gauges, brushes, hammers, breaker bars, saws, and the tables themselves are disinfected regardless if the employee was wearing gloves.
  • Forklifts are assigned to a single user per shift and properly sanitized after each shift.

Operational Continuity Actions at PECO Depots

PECO has put into place a continuity plan for each of our depots across North America, with associated primary, secondary and tertiary servicing depots identified for the entire network. In the event a depot has an employee testing positive for COVID-19, the following action will be taken as the situation and circumstances necessitate:

  • Depot personnel and other supplier personnel that have been at the facility will be immediately notified.
  • The depot may be temporarily closed for disinfecting and sanitization. PECO will follow the CDC recommended protocol for disinfecting the facility. This process may include disinfecting pallets based on the circumstances of the confirmed case.
  • During this time, transportation service providers may be temporarily rerouted to a planned backup depot for either pick-up or delivery to the secondary or tertiary depots identified.
  • The depot will be reopened immediately following the disinfecting process and resume normal business.

Precautionary Actions at Corporate and Canada Offices

  • All employees are equipped to work remotely and continue to effectively support our customers and depots and mitigate interruptions.
  • Offices have been equipped with safety signs for social distancing, partitions for safer desk space, and handwashing and sanitizing supplies.
  • Face masks are required in the office conference rooms and common areas.
  • Employees may voluntarily begin work in our offices but have been encouraged to continue to work from home through the end of July.
  • Employees entering the office will follow the same temperature and contact tracing procedures established at our operation facilities.
  • Traveling has been opened to day trips where the customers are accepting visitors. Overnight travel is discouraged, and travel to hot spot areas is not advised. Travel guidance will continue to evolve with the pandemic conditions. Exceptions will be determined by PECO management in consultation with our customers and distributors and in accordance with Federal, State, and Local orders and regulations.

Please be assured that PECO Pallet will continue to be mindful and take the recommended and necessary steps to minimize the impact of this pandemic. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact your PECO Sales or Service Representative.
